Dear Members of the Virginia Tech Community,

In today's rapidly changing and more vocal world, many of us feel the weight of heightened stress, uncertainty, and polarization. These dynamics can affect not only how we learn, teach, and work together, but also how we experience daily life on campus. In any campus community there will always be conflicts, misunderstandings, and even a feeling of isolation as some people feel unable to share their views for fear of what the consequence might be.

As your Virginia Tech Ombuds Offices, we want to remind you that you do not have to navigate these challenges alone. The Ombuds Offices are here as a confidential, informal, impartial, and independent resource for all members of our community. Whether you are a student, faculty member, staff, or in some other way a part of this community, our offices provides a haven to discuss concerns, explore options, and identify constructive paths foward.

The Ombuds Offices are not advocates for any individual or group, but rather seek to promote respectful communication. By listening, clarifying, and helping people think through difficult situations, we strive to foster a fair, respectful and welcoming campus environment.

In these challenging times, we encourage you to reach out - Whether you seek support in managing a conflict, understanding policies, or simply need a sounding board without judgement. Small conversations can often make a meaningful difference, and connecting early can prevent issues from escalating. Therefore, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at those intial moments when you start to recognize something is off in your working relationships, or you are not able to identify how best to address a situation.

The Hokie nation is stronger as a community when we listen to one another, seek understanding, and commit to addressing our differences with respect. Please know that no matter who you are, or what you believe, that the Ombuds Offices stand ready to support you as we all, collectively, navigate these times.
